How's It Growing: August 7, 2025
White butterflies in the lavender.
Pardon me while I wipe the downpour happening on my brow and down my back. The weather has been unusually hot and humid this summer which has not only effected the moisture on my face, but has seemed to delay the blooms in the cutting garden and toasted some of the veg. Still there are bright spots to be enjoyed, like this red hot dahlia who has decided that now is the time to take over all the attention in the garden. Boom - like a red starburst in your face.
Of course the sunflowers are all about getting lots of sun and seem determined to get as close as possible to that golden orb. No flowers yet but I’m sure it will be just a couple more weeks and they will be these giant stalk’s crowning glory.
Our mini stand of blue corn is starting to tassel and while I don’t expect much in the way of a crop, they are are picturesque part of the garden, as long as the rabbits don’t decide to top them off.
Here is our rabbit monitor on duty trying to flush out the voracious critters. Luckily rabbits don’t seem to like cosmos or sunflowers. However the rabbit monitor does like to take a secret nibble from the zinnia leaves.
The rabbit monitor off duty. When she is in the office, she likes to get behind me on my office chair and if I happen to make a handy chin rest with my arm, she will immediately take advantage of it.
