Room 22 Takes On A New Shade of Spring

Admit it! Anyone who has ever fancied becoming a innkeeper must admit to some sort grandiose dreams of being able to immediately sweep through every room in their new inn and create such charming and luxurious accommodations that every guest will swoon and want to stay forever.

Sigh, but then unless you’re coming in with a huge stash of disposable cash, reality strikes in the form of a seemingly never ending call for available funds to fix and maintain the non-glamorous parts of any building over 100 years old: plumping, electrical, and heating systems, not to mention the exterior painting. Ask any professional service person how a “simple” repair can turn into a nightmare when you are dealing with decades of past and outdated systems. Talk about a “money pit!”

So what does all this have to do with Room 22 and a new coat of paint? Well, to us it is cause to celebrate and cheer! We are always so pleased and excited when we finally have the opportunity to improve our rooms, even if we must take baby-steps.

To those of you who may not remember or have not yet visited our inn, Room 22 is one of the Carriage House rooms. It is on the right side of the building on the first floor and the path on that side leads directly to its door. It previously had a floral wallpaper featuring small lavender flower, that while nice enough in its day, really clashed with everything else that was in the room.

The wallpaper was painstakingly removed and then the walls were painted a lovely soft lavender. It has totally brighten up the room and completed its cozy ambiance. The bathroom was also repainted and a new light fixture and towel bars installed. Another added bonus with a solid color of paint on the walls - the paintings on the walls now really shine. Most of the original art hanging in our rooms are the work of our instructors or students from the workshops we host at the inn, the Hudson River Valley Art Workshops.

Room 22: Vital Statistics

Location: Carriage House, First Floor
Layout: King size bed, loveseat, en suite bath with a tub/shower combo, mini-fridge.
Size: 13’ x 10.5’ (not including bath)
My favorite thing about the room: I once stayed in this room for several months while some remodeling in our quarters was going on and I loved the cozy, out-of-the-way nature of the room. I could come and go without feeling like I would disturb anyone. I also love the rabbit pillow!
